Is this not one GORGEOUS hunk of
Humanity? I mean, just look, er, stare at those photos. Oh, my goodness. Okay,
so we women all have our fantasy guy, don't we? Colin Firth is mine. Yeah, I'll
never meet him in my life,* and I am five years older (4 years, 8 months, 30 days
to be exact), but, that's what a fantasy is, isn't it? Even my hubby thinks we
all should have one (hmm, wonder who his is?) Anyway, I just had to do this
page. I don't know what it will turn out to be like, but you will have to
indulge me.
Colin Firth is a magnificently
talented and versatile actor, although a huge amount of people have seemed to
not take account of that fact. They see him only as Mr. Darcy from the BBC
production of "Pride And Prejudice" (1995) or the Mark Darcy of
"Bridget Jones's Diary." (2001) The latter character being a modern spoof on
the former. However, this actor has been around for far longer than 1995
when Pride & Prejudice was aired and continues to work at a steady pace.
[Upcoming Movies - Genova (2008), A Christmas Carol (2009), Dorian Gray (2009),
A Single Man (2009), Main Street (2010), Catalonia (2010).]
His first major motion picture role
was in 1984, yes, that far back. Many roles being dramatic in nature and
primary characters. An example being the praise given to his performance in the
1993 TV drama "Hostages," 1999's "Donovan Quick" and 2001's "Conspiracy."
He is more than Mr. Darcy. It seems to me that the films where he was lead do
not do well in the US. Perhaps this is because, as always, men run the
industry, and perhaps they don't see "it."
It was wonderful to see him be named in Vanity
Fair's "Hollywood Portfolio" for 2003-2004. This list is comprised of the
top 30 of the best, brightest and biggest stars Hollywood has to offer [listed
as 'The Wanted Man' (no kidding)]. Although he shies away from Hollywood, he has
finally gotten some of the recognition he deserves after such a brilliant 25
years in cinema.

"While it is true that Firth is a
handsome man and a first-rate smolderer, women fall for his
difficult heroes for the same reason he does. Because they are
complicated and conflicted. Because they are stubborn and
principled. Because when you truly win them over, you have truly
won."
"All great actors have people who really follow their careers and
enjoy their performances, but Colin somehow touches a deeper nerve.
It isn't just a fan club, it's an emotional fan club."
"Obviously, Firth's fans admire his intelligent, oddball movies. But
because they read that he is a devoted husband and father, a
dedicated political activist and a lover of difficult novels, they
admire him, too."
